Anil Chatterjee was born on 25 October 1929. He was a prolific character actor from the early fifties to mid-nineties. He predominantly worked in Bengali film industry. He acted in 150 movies ranging from comical to antagonist. He is notable for his performance as freedom-fighter Chittaranjan Das in the biopic film Deshbandhu Chittaranjan, receiving a personal blessing from Deshbandhus wife Basanti Devi. His notable films are Nagarik( 1952), Sajghar (1955), Ajantrik (1958),Rajlakshmi O Srikanta (1958), Chaowa Pawa (1959), Marutirtha Hinglaj (1959), Meghe Dhaka Tara (1960), Kanchenjungha (1961), Mahanagar (1963), Sagina Mahato (1970), Amanush (1975), Ek Din Achanak(1989), Himghar (1996). He died on 17 March 1996.
